Photos that work best for background removal

The model looks for one clear subject. It handles busy backgrounds well, but a few things make the edges cleaner.

People and portraits

Headshots, full-body shots and group photos all work. Turn on fine hair detail for loose or curly hair.

Products on a table

Even light and a visible gap between the product and its shadow give the crispest outline for store listings.

Where it struggles

Glass, smoke and subjects the same colour as the wall behind them can lose some edge detail. Check at 200% zoom.

How the AI background remover works

A segmentation model predicts, pixel by pixel, how much of each pixel belongs to the subject.

Soft alpha, not a hard mask

Edge pixels get partial transparency, so hair and fur blend naturally onto any new background.

Is the background remover free?

You get one free try per day without an account. After that each image costs 1 credit, whatever its size. Credits come in one-time packs from $4.99.

Can it handle hair and fur?

Yes. Keep “Fine hair detail” on and the matte keeps individual strands with soft edges instead of a hard cut line.

What file do I get?

A PNG with a transparent background, or a JPG when you choose a solid colour. There is a single quality level, so you never pay extra for a sharper cut-out.

Can I use the result commercially?

Yes, as long as you own the rights to the original photo. The cut-out is yours to use in listings, ads and print.

What happens to my uploaded photo?

It's stored in a private bucket, only reachable through short-lived signed links, and deleted automatically. We don't use it to train models.

What if the result isn't right?

If the job fails, the credit is refunded. For a successful but imperfect cut-out, open it in Fix Image Area to touch up the edge.
