Which image format should you convert to?

Each format makes a different trade-off between size, quality, transparency and compatibility. Pick the output by where the file is going.

Support summary checked September 2026. AVIF needs Chrome 85+, Firefox 93+ or Safari 16.4+; HEIC opens natively in Safari 17+ and on Apple devices.

Lossy or lossless

Lossy formats throw away detail you rarely notice to stay small. Converting a JPG to PNG won't bring that detail back, it just stores it without further loss.

Transparency

PNG, WebP, AVIF and ICO keep transparent areas. JPG can't, so transparent pixels are filled with white or a colour you pick.

Compatibility first

When a portal or an older app rejects your file, JPG is the safest choice for photos and PNG for graphics.

Convert HEIC, WebP and AVIF to JPG or PNG

Newer formats save space but still trip up email clients, office software and upload forms. These are the conversions people need most.

iPhone HEIC photos

Safari decodes HEIC natively. In other browsers a decoder loads on demand, only when you add a HEIC file, and still runs on your device.

WebP images saved from websites

Many sites serve WebP. Convert to JPG to edit or print them, or to PNG when the image has a transparent background.

AVIF output takes longer

Browsers can't encode AVIF on their own, so it runs in WebAssembly. Large images can take several seconds each.

Convert images to PDF or ICO

PDF and ICO aren't photo formats, they're containers. Here is how the converter builds them.

Images to one PDF

Add several images and choose PDF: they are merged in order into a single document, handy for receipts, scans or a portfolio.

A4 or Letter pages

Choose A4 or US Letter when the PDF will be printed or attached to a form. Image size keeps each page the exact size of its picture.

Favicons from a PNG

Start from a square PNG of at least 256 px. The small 16 and 32 px sizes are what browser tabs actually display.

Which formats can this image converter read?

JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF and HEIC/HEIF. For animated GIFs only the first frame is converted. You can export to JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, PDF or ICO.

How do I convert HEIC to JPG on Windows?

Drop the HEIC files here and choose JPG. Windows browsers can't display HEIC, so the page loads a decoder only for those files and converts them on your computer, without installing an extension.

Can I convert several images at once?

Yes, up to 10 files per batch for free and up to 50 with any credit pack. The results download as a ZIP, or as one multi-page file when the output is PDF.

Why did my transparent background turn white?

JPG has no alpha channel, so transparent pixels need a solid colour. White is the default and you can pick another. Choose PNG, WebP or AVIF if you need to keep the transparency.

Is converting an image to a new format lossless?

Converting to PNG is lossless from the decoded pixels. JPG, WebP and AVIF output is lossy and follows the quality slider. Converting between lossy formats adds a little more loss each time, so start from the original when you can.

Does the image converter keep EXIF data?

No. The converter redraws each image and writes a fresh file, which drops camera details and GPS location. Keep the original if you need that metadata.
