Ways to split a picture

Choose columns and rows up to 10 × 10. Tiles are cut edge to edge with no gaps and no overlap, so they reassemble perfectly.

  • Two halves

    A wide photo into two slides for a swipeable carousel.

  • Quarters

    Four equal parts for a puzzle, a 2 × 2 print or a lesson sheet.

  • Poster tiles

    A big image across nine sheets to print at home and tape together.

  • Horizontal strips

    Slice a long screenshot or infographic into readable parts.

Carousel slides

Split a panorama into 2–5 columns and one row, then post the pieces as a swipeable carousel in order.

Puzzles and worksheets

Teachers split maps and diagrams into numbered pieces; the file names tell you each tile's row and column.

Uneven sizes are handled

If the width doesn't divide evenly, tiles differ by one pixel at most — no strip of the image is ever dropped.

Printing a large poster on A4 or Letter sheets

Home printers can't do A1, but a 2 × 2 or 3 × 3 split of a high-resolution image can. Here's what resolution you need for 300 dpi.

Check the pixels first

Each A4 sheet at 300 dpi needs about 2480 × 3508 px. A phone photo (4000 × 3000) covers a 2 × 2 A4 poster at roughly 200 dpi — fine from a metre away.

Leave margins in mind

Most printers can't print to the edge. Print tiles 'fit to page' with the same margin setting and trim along the edges before taping.

Portrait vs landscape tiles

Match tile shape to paper: a landscape image split 2 × 2 gives landscape tiles, so rotate the sheets rather than the image.

One download with every tile, named so you can't mix them up.

Row and column in the name

Files are named like photo_r2_c3.jpg — second row, third column — and sort in reading order in any file manager.

Same format as the original

PNG stays PNG so transparency is kept; photos default to JPG. You can switch to PNG for lossless tiles.

No re-scaling

Tiles are cut from the original pixels without resizing, so 100 tiles of a 10 000 px image are exactly as sharp as the source.

How do I split an image into 4 equal parts?

Upload the image and pick 2×2 under Common splits. The preview shows the four cuts; download to get a ZIP with the four quarters.

Can I split an image into more than 9 pieces?

Yes, up to 10 columns by 10 rows, which is 100 tiles. Very small tiles of a small image will be tiny, so check the size shown under the settings.

Does splitting an image reduce its quality?

Tiles are copied pixel for pixel. Only JPG export adds compression; choose PNG to keep the tiles lossless.

What's the difference between Split Image and Grid Maker?

Split Image cuts any picture into any grid at its original size. Grid Maker is built for Instagram profiles: it crops to 3 columns, sizes tiles to 1080 px and numbers them in posting order.

Can I split a long screenshot into pages?

Set Columns to 1 and Rows to the number of pages you want. Each strip keeps the full width of the screenshot.

Does it work with transparent PNGs?

Yes. Keep the export format on PNG and each tile keeps its transparent areas.
