Each quick style adds a new text box you can restyle freely. They reflect the five jobs people most often put text on a photo for.

Outline
Thick outline that stays readable on any background.
One message per image
A headline plus one supporting line is the limit for a photo seen in a feed. Anything longer belongs in the post caption.
Labels beat floating text
A coloured background box makes small text readable on any photo and looks deliberate, like a sticker, rather than lost in the image.
Match the photo's mood
Serif italics suit calm, editorial photos; bold sans reads as news or promotion; the outline style is loud on purpose.
Making text readable on any photo
Legibility depends on contrast and on how big the image will be displayed, not on the pixel size of the file.

Contrast first
White text needs a dark area or a shadow; on bright skies switch to dark text or add an outline of about 10% of the font size.
Size relative to the width
Text size here is a percentage of the image width, so it looks the same whether the photo is 1080 px or 6000 px wide.
Stay out of the crop zones
Stories put buttons over the top and bottom of the frame, and profile grids crop posts. Keep key words away from the edges.
Fonts, languages and emoji
The editor draws text with the fonts available in your browser, so what you see in the preview is exactly what is exported.
Which fonts are available
Sans uses Geist, which ships with this site; Serif, Monospace, Impact and Handwritten use the matching fonts installed on your device, with safe fallbacks.
Accents and other scripts
French accents, Cyrillic, Greek and most scripts render if a font on your device supports them.
Emoji
Emoji are drawn in your system's colour emoji style, so they may look slightly different on Apple, Android and Windows.

How do I add text to an image without an app?
Open this page in any browser, upload the photo and type in the text box. Drag the text on the photo to move it, then download — nothing to install.
Can I add several text boxes with different styles?
Yes. Use 'Add text' or a quick style for each box; every box has its own font, colour, size, outline and background, and can be selected by tapping it.
Will the text be sharp when I download the image?
The text is drawn again at the photo's full resolution when you download, so it stays crisp even if the preview is scaled down to fit your screen.
Can I use my own font?
Not yet — the editor uses the site's font and the ones installed on your device. If a font is installed locally, the Serif and Handwritten options may already pick it up.
Is text added to an image good enough for print?
For print, start from a photo of at least 300 pixels per inch at the final size and export as PNG. Keep text at least 9 pt tall once printed.
Can I edit the text after downloading?
The downloaded file is a flat image. Keep this tab open to make changes, or re-upload your original photo and add the text again.
